Volunteers sought for series of Haiti deployments

Volunteers are being sought for a series of upcoming deployments to Haiti.

A need exists for specialists from the following fields:

  • Infectious diseases;
  • General surgery;
  • Mental health;
  • Oral health;
  • Pharmacy;
  • Physical and occupational therapists; and
  • Primary care and chronic disease practitioners for children and adults.

Later this month, UNMC will send a series of small volunteer teams to work at Port-Au-Prince General Hospital and two private clinics. The deployments are part of the medical center’s continued efforts to help Haiti recover from the massive Jan. 12 earthquake that devastated the country.

Registration form

Those interested in volunteering to deploy to Haiti must fill out a registration form, which can be found here.

The volunteer teams — which will be selected based upon the needs on the ground in Haiti — will each deploy for about a week at a time.

Potential volunteers must be employees of UNMC or The Nebraska Medical Center. No students or residents are allowed to deploy at this time but such personnel are encouraged to register now to potentially deploy as volunteers at a later time.

Those interested in volunteering should contact Kathryn Istas at kistas@unmc.edu.
