As it has in previous years, UNMC will participate in the annual Black Family Health and Wellness Association’s health fair.
It will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the North High School Viking Center.
Free screenings include:
- Blood pressure;
- Cholesterol;
- Glucose;
- Prostate cancer;
- Breast exams; and
- Eye exams and more.
Also, mental health assessment screenings will be provided by the Minority Health Awareness month student coordination group, which includes students from the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public health, and Creighton University School of Medicine.
The event has activities for children and provides transportation for residents to the event.
“Each year, we aim to provide critical health screenings to people who may not have access to routine care. In addition, participants receive important health information that could save lives,” said Wayne Houston, community outreach specialist in the UNMC College of Public Health’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities and president of The Black Family Health and Wellness Association.
After the event, participants with abnormal screening results receive follow-up calls. UNMC’s Center for Reducing Health Disparities sponsors a health report assessment on the event.
