The Munroe-Meyer Institute, an affiliate of UNMC, has opened The Brace Place, an orthotics and prosthetics office in Council Bluffs. The Brace Place, located at 1705 McPherson Ave., Suite GL400, is a satellite of the main office at the Omaha medical center campus.

The Brace Place in Omaha has been serving the region for the past 14 years with a full line of upper and lower extremity orthotics and prosthetics, spinal bracing, sports bracing, post-mastectomy products, vascular compression garments and custom seating for both manual and power wheel chairs.

Husband, wife team staff office

The Council Bluffs office, which opened Oct. 1, 2001, contains several fitting rooms, a gait room and a work laboratory for minor modification, alterations, repairs and adjustments. All other fabrications are performed at the main facility in Omaha.

The Bluffs office is staffed by Jim and Mary Littleton, a husband and wife team who provide the full spectrum of orthotic and prosthetic care.

Both are certified in the fitting of vascular compression garments, whereas Jim Littleton is certified in orthotics and prosthetics, and Mary Littleton is certified in the fitting of orthotic soft goods and post-mastectomy products. She is particularily proud of one of their specialty fitting rooms, totally dedicated to female patients in need of her services. However, she is able to provide the full line of post mastectomy breast prostheses and garments at either facility.

The Brace Place is fully accredited by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Inc. The facility and Jim Littleton are supporting members of the Amputee Coalition of America, and Jim Littleton is a member of the International Association of Orthotics and Prosthetics.
