Wellness Wednesday – F.A.S.T. diet helps Kathy Austin lose 35 pounds

Kathy Austin, administrator in the department of ophthalmology and visual sciences, has used the F.A.S.T. Diet to lose 35 pounds in the past four months.

picture disc.“It’s pretty regimented and I wasn’t sure I could do it but it’s worked out great,” Austin said of the diet.

Tony Dean, originator of the F.A.S.T. diet, will be on campus on Friday for a pair of seminars about the weight loss program. The seminars start at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.

To help participants shed pounds, the diet uses tactics such as:

  • Target weights and regimented diet and exercise plans;
  • Accountability measures such as participants contacting Dean each day to report their numbers (calories, fiber, protein, carbs, water intake and fat intake) and exercise;
  • Motivational messages from Dean; and
  • Weekly weigh-ins.

In her program, Austin keeps her daily food intake below 1,100 calories and exercises for 45 minutes each day. Austin already has set and reached two target weights and is now working on a third.

“Once I got started, I wanted to lose more,” she said.

    I know this article is dated from November of 2010, but I thought I would note my testimony on Tony Dean's FAST diet. I discovered the FAST diet in February of this year and have lost over 52 pounds. Additionally, My 17 year old daughter and wife have also joined in and together, since February we have a combined weight loss of over 120 pounds. With the right motivation and being accountable each day, makes this one of the easiest programs that I've ever done. I would hope that UNMC and TNMC would see the benefits of this program and sponsor a team for F.A.S.T.
