Friday Husker Pick’em – Texas A&M

My research associate Bill O’Neill compiled some Aggie facts for you as Nebraska prepares to play Texas A&M on Saturday (OK, so he just copied and pasted them off the Texas A&M website):

Panelist records

Our panelists all correctly picked Husker wins against Kansas. As such, their records are:

  • Dr. Hill, 9-1
  • Team Runco, 9-1
  • Dr. Ringenberg, 8-1

  • Texas A&M opened in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. The “A” and “M” initials symbolized the name components. In 1963, the institution gained university status and “A&M” was incorporated into the official name as a nod to the institution’s history but the individual letters no longer explicitly stand for anything;
  • The term “Gig’em,” which Aggies use as a greeting, was said to have been introduced by former A&M regent Pinky Downs at a pep rally before a game against the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs. Downs asked the crowd, “What are we going to do to those horned frogs?” He then answered his own question, saying “Gig’em Aggies.” “Gigging” is a term for frog hunting.

Here’s another fact, the Aggies have played really well the past few weeks and may present the biggest challenge the 9-1 Cornhuskers have faced all season.

Below, our panelists, Jeffrey Hill, M.D., Lisa Runco and Chad Kelsay and Kyle Ringenberg, M.D., talk Huskers and Aggies.

Dr. Hill says, “This will be a tough game. The Aggies are playing lights out. Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez should be back at full strength this week and our defense should once again win out. This one will be a nail-biter nonetheless.” NU 31, Texas A&M 24

Team Runco/Kelsay says, “The last two weeks have been a little lackluster but wins are wins. We’re convinced we are going to come out and play quite well this weekend. Texas A&M is a good team and they are playing well but we believe our defense continues to shine and get better each week and our offense is poised for a breakout game again. Many people are doubting the Huskers this week; we are not among them.” NU 31, Texas A&M 13

Dr. Ringenberg says, “This game concerned me before the season and it still does. A&M is playing well, they have a good running game and it is a difficult place to play. Martinez is not 100 percent. But we play well in these situations and I think we will pull out a close one.” NU 30, Texas A&M 27
