ITS’ Eileen Andersen receives November Gold ‘U’

Eileen Andersen, an office associate in UNMC Information Technology Services, takes on responsibility with a smile.

That’s evidenced by the nominations she received from co-workers and others for the Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ award, which Andersen received for the month of November.

“Eileen’s customer service exemplifies the mission and values of the medical center and she exhibits a positive, helpful, friendly face for our office,” said Kim Strohbehn, Andersen’s supervisor.

“She has an extremely positive attitude and cheerful personality,” said Anita Solon, administrative associate to Don Leuenberger, vice chancellor for business and finance. “It means a great deal to our office that we have someone of this caliber … to help us out and keep the Chancellor’s Office humming along.”

Below, the Gold ‘U’ recipient talks with UNMC Today.

Describe your job in 25 words or less?

I tend to a lot of tasks including payroll, purchasing card reconciliation, office supply orders, meeting arrangement, travel coordination and ITS class registration.

What is your best on-the-job memory?

I was making a hotel reservation and mentioned UNMC. The person helping me was very familiar with UNMC as the hotel owner traveled here from Phoenix for a liver transplant. To make a long story short, the owner was very impressed with the staff and facilities here and graciously offered to take good care of me while staying at the hotel.

What is the best part of your job?

That’s easy … it’s definitely the people. I’m amazed at the intelligent and talented individuals who work for UNMC. I take satisfaction in assisting them with their needs and hope they think of me as someone they can count on.

List some things people may not know about you:

  • I am one of six siblings.
  • My positive attitude comes from my mother;
  • I worked for an upscale hotel company for 20 years before coming to UNMC; and
  • I love snow and dream of moving to northwest Montana.
