The LastWord information system will be upgraded in March. The new system is named Carecast. Final plans are underway to implement this new version, which is currently used by NHS, UNMC and UMA.
Carecast is a more robust information system with more capabilities to enhance patient care. This upgrade sets the stage for future implementation of new functionality and processes such as physician order entry.
The look and feel of many of the Carecast screens will be the same, but some functions will look different and a few new functions have been added. Users will notice significant changes in the way they are able to view results and manage lists. Training of clinical personnel including physicians, nurses and ancillary staff has begun and will continue through the end of February.
