Help UNMC salute Omaha on Jan. 18

The UNMC campus community is invited to a special campus event on Tuesday, Jan. 18 to honor the City of Omaha and its leaders for their support of the medical center’s growth and progress.

The event will be held at 4 p.m. in the Sorrell Center Events Center foyer on the building’s first floor and will feature comments from UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D.

“Leaders such as Mayor Jim Suttle and members of the city council have been invaluable partners in UNMC’s growth and success in recent years,” Dr. Maurer said. “This is a chance for us as a campus to salute Omaha and its leaders for all they have done to help us flourish.”

Dr. Maurer noted:

  • Suttle and the city council’s recent support of a medical center’s request to close 40th Street on campus to make room for expansion; and
  • The mayor and city council’s role as strong partners in exploring the feasibility of moving Saddle Creek Road west to allow for an expanded UNMC campus and a more economically-viable midtown area.

Suttle and other city leaders will attend the UNMC event.

“Please come out to help us thank these leaders for their vital support of UNMC and the midtown community,” Dr. Maurer said. “We wouldn’t be where we are and we can’t get to where we want to be without them.”
