‘Rosie the Riveter’ on campus today

To celebrate Women’s History month the Durham Museum will welcome historical impersonator Angela Bartley as Rosie the Riveter for a noon performance at UNMC today.

Partnership information

The lecture is offered through the Time Travelers partnership, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students and their immediate family with valid identification, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the UNMC campus.

When: Noon. Employees are encouraged to bring lunch.

Where: Sorrell Center, Room 1005

Who: Bartley will portray Rose Monroe — who dreamed of flying in World War II as a Women’s Air Service Pilot but couldn’t because widows with children were not allowed to fight.

Follow Rosie as she moves her family to Michigan to work on bombers. While there, she would be discovered by Hollywood and placed in a war bond film that led to her becoming “Rosie the Riveter.”

Hear how after the war, Monroe would found Rose Builders, a construction firm specializing in luxury homes and about how she finally would earn her pilot’s license.
