Support pours out for UNMC, Dr. Pamies

Today a memorial service for Rubens Pamies, M.D., vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean for graduate studies, will be held at Joslyn Art Museum.

The service will mark the latest event in a long string of demonstrations of support and affection for UNMC and Dr. Pamies, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Feb. 26 at the age of 52.

A memorial service for Dr. Pamies will be held today at 10 a.m. at the Joslyn Art Museum.
The UNMC Student and Faculty Senates have both passed resolutions honoring Dr. Pamies, as did the Nebraska Legislature.

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents at its meeting on Friday took a moment of silence and held a brief remembrance for the late vice chancellor.

Also, over the lunch hours on Tuesday and Wednesday, the UNMC Bookstore will sell copies of the book, “Help and Hope for Haiti,” in the Nebraska Cafe.

The book was edited by Dr. Pamies and provides a documentary-style look at the efforts by medical center employees to provide care and assist with a rebuilding strategy.

The book is offered at a discounted price through the month of March and all proceeds benefit the Rubens Pamies, M.D., Haitian Relief Outreach Fund.

Today’s ceremony starts at 10 a.m. in Joslyn’s Witherspoon Hall. A reception will be held after the ceremony in the fountain court outside the hall.
