What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

During my Ph.D. studies at UNMC, I attended an international student research conference in Beijing with 13 other UNMC graduate students. This was my first time in China and I was touched by the incredible hospitality of our hosts. This was also the first student-run meeting I had attended, and I enjoyed participating in lively scientific debates without feeling intimidated by the presence of more experienced scientists.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

I presented my ideas for a grant-writing workshop to a committee of the Researchers Users Group and was impressed by how well they work together, even though they belong to different departments across campus. The committee members were enthusiastic and gave me dozens of suggestions for the presentation, including how to incorporate UNMC branding into my Powerpoint slides. I am grateful to them for showing me the ropes and proud to be part of this campus resource.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I am an animal lover and my husband and I have rescued a fostered cat and dog.
  • I enjoy listening to live music at Omaha venues such as the Slowdown and the Waiting Room.
  • For my undergraduate education, I attended St. Olaf College in Minnesota, which is not related to the fictional town of St. Olaf that “Rose” refers to in the TV show Golden Girls.
