Gilmore Award ceremony today

Matthew Zimmerman, Ph.D., assistant professor of cellular and integrative physiology, will receive the 2011 Joseph P. Gilmore Distinguished New Investigator Award at a campus ceremony today.

Why: Dr. Zimmerman was honored for his investigations into neuronal molecules called reactive oxygen species and their role in hypertension.

About the Gilmore Award: The award is named for the late Joseph P. Gilmore, Ph.D., who was professor and chairman of the UNMC Department of Physiology and Biophysics from 1970 to 1987. The award was established upon his retirement to recognize outstanding research contributions by young UNMC faculty members.
