Describe your research in laymen’s terms.

We explore how the autonomic nervous functions are impaired in some clinical diseases such as heart failure and diabetes.

How does your research contribute to science and/or health care?

Heart failure and diabetes are chronic progressive diseases that usually cannot be cured. Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction increases the risk for patients with heart failure or diabetes. Our research offers new information about the mechanisms responsible for the cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction and provides potential therapeutic strategies to improve the prognosis for patients with heart failure and diabetes.

Name someone at UNMC who provides vital contributions to your success and briefly describe how they help you.

I am grateful to Dr. Harold Schultz, my postdoctoral supervisor, who gave me wonderful research training and continues to support my research career. I also want to thank Drs. Irving Zucker, Robert Muelleman and Paul Tran for their mentorship and support for my laboratory construction.

List three things few people know about you.

  • I am a bridge player;
  • I like to climb mountains; and
  • I don’t typically eat sweet foods.
