E-waste collection, culture and a concert

While every day is a busy day at the medical center, employees can partake in an unusual number of campus happenings today.

Recycle old household electronics

The day starts and ends with a pair of “e-waste collection” sessions at General Supply (41st Street between Emile and Leavenworth). The first collection runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and the second is from 3 to 5 p.m.

Collected items will be safely recycled or remanufactured.

The collections are part of the medical center’s observance of Earth Week.

Get some culture

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the second annual UNMC Culturefest will take place in the Sorrell Center’s Truhlsen Campus Events Center.

A smashing success last year, the event features food and entertainment from several cultures. Culturefest is free and open to students and employees at UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC Physicians.

Employees are encouraged to be on time as the food went fast last year.

Sonic medicine

At noon today, Thomas Kluge — principal violist of the Omaha Symphony — and his wife, Michele Favero-Kluge — a renowned pianist — will perform at Music as Medicine in the Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium.

The concert is sponsored by UNMC’s College of Medicine in support with UNMC’s Center for Continuing Education and the UNMC Human Resources Department.
