In UNMC Today’s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who will be tomorrow’s health care professionals.

Today we meet Andrew Richardson, who is in his fifth semester at the College of Nursing-Kearney Division.

  • Name: Andrew Richardson
  • Hometown: Peyton, Colo.
  • Year/Program: Fifth semester in the College of Nursing-Kearney Division

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

A really good memory was working in ICU during my externship with a patient who was extremely hard to put an IV in. Several nurses had already tried and were waiting for a nurse from another floor to come. I attempted twice before she came down and was successful on the second attempt. Although I’m sure it was just the luck of the draw for the right vein, it was good for my own confidence at the time.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

There have been several group projects that require several students to work together. These projects have helped us to work as a team with all of us adding our ideas and work together to create one excellent piece of work.

List three things people may not know about you:

  • I am a Colorado Buffaloes fan.
  • I love God above anything else in this world.
  • I love my wife a very close second but she understands.

It's students like Andrew in our program that make coming to work a blessing. Since I'm one of those hard patients to get an IV into, I totally understand the experience he mentioned. Way to go!
