Earnest “Ace” Blount
Each day this week — which is Environmental Services Week — we’ll get to know one of our campus environmental services workers who keep the medical center clean and running smooth.

Today, we meet Earnest “Ace” Blount, who has worked at UNMC for nearly 24 years, all of them in the College of Nursing.

Here are three things to know about “Ace”:

  • His favorite thing about UNMC is the people.
  • He’s from Birmingham, Ala., and he loves Alabama and Oklahoma football.
  • He will retire from UNMC at the end of this month.

What can I say about Ace? He's kind, always there to listen, hysterically funny 🙂 can bring a smile to anyone's face even on a bad day, has great conversation, and always keeps it 100% real to help keep you grounded in reality. God bless you Ace and congratulations on retiring! You deserve so much praise….

Even though I have never had the opportunity to meet you, I want to thank you for your many years of dedicated service; without our cleaning crew, this place would be an unhealthy pit. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement; you have earned it!

When I retired as Dean in 1994 and moved to a faculty office to continue doing some teaching, Ace regularly stopped by my door to converse about something. He was a real "day brightener." I saw him recently when I was in the College. I wish him the very best in his retirement. Rosalee Yeaworth
