Student spotlight – Rachel Leitt

Education is one of the four pillars of UNMC’s mission and our students are the lifeblood of that aspect of campus life.

In UNMC Today’s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who will become tomorrow’s health care professionals.

Rachel Leitt
Today we meet Rachel Leitt, a senior dental hygiene student in the College of Dentistry.

  • Name: Rachel Leitt
  • Hometown: Lincoln
  • Year/program: Senior Dental Hygiene (Class of 2012)

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

Participating in Panhandle Dental Day in Gordon, Neb., last May.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

Working together and commitment to excellence are demonstrated through the outreach programs in which we participate. Most especially are the sealant programs we do at local elementary schools. For each program, a team of six (6) hygiene students and two (2) dental hygiene instructors work together to provide the best care possible for the elementary school students.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I love to go biking and cook.
  • I swam with a dolphin once on a vacation when I was young.
  • I’m determined to become good at skiing this winter.

Thank you to all the students at the COD. My grandson was a recipient of the valuable elementary school program several years ago. As result of this positive experience, he has never been afraid to go to the dentist – as many of my generation were. Your quality care and compassion serves all of us and has a ripple effect in ways you will never know. Thank you.
