Powerful research networking tool headed to campus

UNMC will soon launch SciVal Experts, an expertise profiling and research networking tool that will help medical center researchers form partnerships and demonstrate their expertise to the global research community.

SciVal Experts automatically creates profiles for researchers using publication histories from the Scopus abstract and citation database.

Campus researchers will soon have access to SciVal Experts, a powerful networking tool that can help create collaborations and connections with researchers around the globe.
SciVal Experts also produces a visual semantic index, or “fingerprint,” of relevant concepts that instantly reveals each researcher’s distinctive expertise, and uses this information to expose valuable connections between faculty.

Powerful network

With SciVal Experts, researchers can:

  • Browse profiles or search by concept, last name or full text to identify collaborators for grant teams, learn about new journals in their field and discover articles to read.
  • View researchers’ fingerprints, publication histories and co-author networks to explore their unique expertise as well as their connections to other faculty and institutions.
  • Track and update their profile information to keep their publications histories current and visible.
  • Expand their research reach by searching across the SciVal Experts Community that connects users to researchers across SciVal Experts institutions, and the DIRECT2experts network that links users to researchers at organizations with other profile systems.

Not just for researchers

Others who can benefit from SciVal Experts include:

  • Administrators who can help researchers connect with other experts to form multidisciplinary teams, introduce new faculty to potential collaborators and access up-to-date publication lists by researcher and department.
  • Students who can find mentors, discover articles to read and explore research areas.
  • Communications departments that can use the tool to track new publications produced by our researchers and connect media outlets to the right experts easily
  • Other universities, corporations and government agencies that can find researchers to collaborate with on grants and other research projects.
  • Donors who can identify researchers to sponsor by exploring their profiles and accomplishments

Training sessions

A series of training sessions will be held next week to show you how SciVal Experts can benefit you. The session schedule is as follows:

  • Jan. 17 — 3 p.m., Durham Research Center, Room 1005
  • Jan. 18 — 8:30 a.m., Bennett Hall, Room 2020
