MLK event to feature revitalization leader, hip-hop violinist

Othello Meadows III will deliver the keynote address and hip-hop violinist Daniel Davis will perform today during UNMC’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day commemoration.

What: Annual commemoration for slain civil rights leader, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event is free and open to the public. The annual address, which is sponsored by UNMC and The Nebraska Medical Center, has been one of the city’s best attended events on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Who: Meadow is executive director of Seventy-Five North Revitalization Corp. — named for Highway 75, which runs through north Omaha. He leads a major renovation plan to include mixed-income housing, a community center and support services like grocery stores, job training sites and other small businesses.

Davis — a violinist who studied at Julliard School of Music and who has performed for President Barack Obama and other international dignitaries — will perform to open the event. (See video.)
