Student Spotlight – Drew Dietle

Education is one of the four pillars of UNMC’s mission and our students are the lifeblood of that aspect of campus life.

In UNMC Today’s Student Spotlight, we get to know some of these students, who will become tomorrow’s health care professionals.

What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

I like to introduce my classmates to my old friends. One weekend I organized a bonfire and cookout with a friend I grew up with, and a lot of my classmates drove out to his country house for a pretty good party.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

As first year students, we spend most of our time with faculty, with each other or on our own, and we’re always studying! Many of the instructors take pride in “working together” with students, making themselves available outside of class and answering our questions. In our “Function of the Human Body Core,” Dr. Kurtis Cornish would come to the lecture hall at 7 a.m. every day that he lectured to answer any questions. He went above and beyond the call of duty, but we were appreciative.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I like to sing barbershop music.
  • My favorite foods are all plant-based (vegetarian).
  • I worked as an English teacher and a personal trainer before starting medical school.
