Human research subjects topic of Science Cafe

Medical research on humans is the topic of Tuesday’s Omaha Science Cafe.

Where: The Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St.

Who and what: Bruce Gordon, M.D., professor and division chief of pediatric hematology/oncology and stem cell transplantation at UNMC, will discuss the history, ethics and regulation of human subject research.

Dr. Gordon is executive chairman of the UNMC Institutional Review Board, which
provides oversight of all clinical trials and research involving human subjects. The IRB protects human subjects by reviewing biomedical and behavioral research to make sure it is safe for participants.

Food: Free pizza, available for the first 50 people, will be provided by Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures.
