Below is a list of achievements, activities and happenings involving UNMC staff, faculty and students.

Lisa Runco, vice chair of finance and administration in the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, recently started a one-year term as president of the Administrators of Internal Medicine (AIM). AIM is a national organization of 435 business administrators in departments of internal medicine at medical schools and affiliated teaching hospitals in the United States and Canada.

Samuel Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., professor in the department of pathology and microbiology and Havlik-Wall Professor of Oncology, received the George H. Scott Award from Toxicology Forum for scientific excellence in toxicology and risk assessment. The award was given largely because of Dr. Cohen’s landmark work regarding saccharin — which led to the delisting of the chemical from the National Toxicology Program List of Carcinogens in 2000. Dr. Cohen will be honored again in October when he will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Environmental Health and Sciences for his research into arsenic and cancer.
