The UNMC Center for Healthy Living invites the campus to join the “THRIVE 5-week Walking Challenge” beginning Sept. 9.

The THRIVE program’s goal is to empower participants to incorporate more activity into their daily routines, especially during the work or school day when people tend to sit for long periods of time. The program is free and open to members of the med center community, which includes students and employees as well as members of the Center for Healthy Living. Participants do not need to be members to join the challenge.

Registration for the “THRIVE 5-Week Walking Challenge” can be found on the Center for Healthy Living website. After signing up, participants can download a walking plan and desk exercise and stretching guide. Participants also are invited to join group walking meetups every Tuesday and Wednesday for the duration of the challenge.

At the end of the challenge, participants can submit their walking logs to this Center for Healthy Living email to receive a prize.

The walking challenge is part of a series of THRIVE wellness events planned for the academic year. More than 200 people participated in the first THRIVE walking challenge in June 2024, and the program aims for increased participation this fall. A partner challenge is planned for late October.
