Monday declared a holiday

President Barack Obama today declared that Monday, Dec. 24 will be a holiday and Gov. Dave Heineman — as is required by state law – followed suit.

This means all state agencies — including university offices — will be closed Monday.

University of Nebraska Medical Center employees eligible for holiday leave will be granted Monday, Dec. 24 as a day of “Administrative Leave.”

Individuals who had planned to use vacation, compensatory leave, floating holidays or other leave statuses on Monday will not be required to do so.

UNMC Human Resources recognizes that, at this late date, many have already requested leave and won’t be able to cancel it before Monday. A way to rectify this will be formulated and announced at a later time, HR officials said.

UNMC employees — if required to work on Dec. 24 — will be paid for the time worked and also granted an additional day off which may be carried into 2013. Holiday parking guidelines will apply on Monday.

Given the late notice, UNMC Physicians clinic employees who are scheduled to work on Monday, Dec. 24 will still be required to work. These employees will receive holiday pay.
