Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center event today

The campus is invited to an afternoon event to be held today marking a construction milestone at the Fred & Pamela Buffet Cancer Center.

This summer marked the completion of the needed framework for all floors of the 10-story Suzanne and Walter Scott Research Tower and eight-story C.L. Werner Hospital, including outpatient areas, of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

Speakers at the 4:30 p.m. beam raising ceremony will be:

  • Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., UNMC chancellor
  • Rosanna Morris, interim CEO, Nebraska Medicine
  • Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director, Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center
  • Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert

Time: Beam signing starting at 3:30 p.m. until 4:25 p.m. Beam raising ceremony starting at 4:30 p.m.
Location: The green space outside of the Durham Research Center towers.

In total, more than 615,000 square feet will house oncology scientists, clinicians, patients, families and staff starting in the spring of 2017.

In celebration, Nebraska Medicine, UNMC and the University of Nebraska Foundation invite the campus community to join in signing signature beams — which have traveled more than 2,000 miles throughout Nebraska over the past six months — as well as in enjoying light refreshments, picking up free T- shirts and sharing in the ceremonial beam raising.

UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert, Ken Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, and Rosanna Morris, interim CEO of Nebraska Medicine, will provide remarks.
