Cancer center progress impacts campus streets

The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center is taking shape, and each new phase brings adjustments to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The following notifications will be posted as changes continue to occur. Employees are asked to mention these updates to colleagues, and continue to observe all safety and directional signage around the site.

Road reopens at Dewey Avenue
Beginning Saturday, May 28, Dewey Avenue will reopen. Colleagues who park in Lot 31 (near the Munroe-Meyer Institute and J.P. Lord School) will need to use Dewey Avenue for access moving forward, as Durham Research Plaza (also known as 45th Street) will be closing. Pedestrian traffic routes will be maintained at all times, although routes may shift, and colleagues will need to continue to follow all safety and directional signage around the site.

Temporary road closure at Durham Research Plaza (also known as 45th Street)
Also beginning Saturday, May 28, Durham Research Plaza will be closed. This will allow for crane removal and final 45th Street road preparations. Temporary road closure signage will be posted to assist with revised traffic flow and to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians. The section of road directly between the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center and the Durham Research Towers will remain closed through the completion of the project in the spring of 2017.

Parking/Lot 2 temporary impact at Durham Research Plaza entry
In addition, the Lot 2 west entry (Durham Research Plaza/45th Street) will be temporarily unavailable due to street paving. All traffic must utilize the Durham Outpatient Center circle drive to enter Lot 2 during this time. This temporary closure is anticipated to last through the first week of July. Pedestrian routes between DRC buildings and the DOC will be maintained at all times.
