The Distinguished Scientist Award

The Distinguished Scientist Award — which is sponsored by the chancellor — recognizes researchers who have been among the most productive scientists at UNMC during the past five years.

Research focus:
Drug discovery, medicinal chemistry

The goal of my research is: To develop new molecules that help to better understand the underlying mechanisms of disease and then translate those discoveries into new medicines.

My research will make a difference because: As the biology of many diseases is being better understood, my group can have a major impact by developing better tool compounds, and ultimately, drugs that will benefit both researchers and patients. This only can be done because of all the talented individuals I work with on a daily basis.

The best advice I’ve ever been given is:
Remember students and colleagues are not you.
Treat everyone as the individual that they are.

Three things you may not know about me are:

  • My ninth great-grandparents (John Alden and Priscilla Mullins) arrived in the U.S. on the Mayflower.
  • I am a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
  • I love to play golf.
