UNMC nurse faculty member receives American Association of Nurse Practitioners Award
UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln Division instructor and family nurse practitioner Roberta Kroeger recently was awarded the 2019 American Association of Nurse Practitioners Nebraska State Award for Nurse Practitioner Advocate Excellence.
The award is given annually to a nurse practitioner advocate in each state who has made a significant contribution toward increasing awareness and recognition of the nurse practitioner role.
Recipients were honored at an awards ceremony and reception held during the AANP national conference in Indianapolis.
“It is a great honor to be nominated and recognized by my colleagues,” Kroeger said. “I am humbled. It has always been my personal philosophy to treat my patients with respect, compassion and to encourage them to be involved in their care to maintain or improve their health status.
“As a nurse practitioner educator, I have strived to be a good role model and mentor — using evidence-based practice as the standard of care. I am very fortunate to have wonderful patients in my family practice and terrific, hard-working students.”
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the largest national professional membership organization for nurse practitioners of all specialties, represents the interests of more than 270,000 licensed NPs in the U.S.
Card access migration scheduled for this weekend is canceled
Due to technical issues, the card access server migration scheduled to be conducted on the UNMC campus today and Saturday has been postponed.
The migration was set to begin at 8 p.m. this evening and be complete by noon Saturday.
Dr. Gold delivers keynote at ADEA event

On Aug. 3, UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., delivered an inspirational and thought-provoking keynote presentation at the American Dental Education Association’s 2019 Summer Deans’ Institute held at Lake Tahoe, Calif. Dr. Gold challenged the deans of dental schools from across U.S. and Canada to think differently and “think bigger” as they approached their weekend workshops on the future of dental education.

Registration open for Protection of Human Subjects Conference
UNMC’s 10th annual Hot Topics in the Protection of Human Subjects Conference will be held on Aug. 23 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will enhance participants’ understanding of the ethics and regulations governing research.
Register for the conference here through Aug. 16.
The conference is free and open to all. However, when registering, please select only one role or ticket in order to allow an accurate head count. A light breakfast and lunch will be served.
Parking for the event is in Lot 63, which is located at 40th and Marcy (one block south of Leavenworth). Shuttle services will run from 7 a.m.-8 a.m. and again from 4 p.m.-5 p.m.

Barrett’s invites UNMC to a block party

Barrett’s Barleycorn, 4322 Leavenworth St., wants to celebrate the 32-year long friendship between UNMC and Barrett’s by hosting a block party on Friday, Aug. 23.
All employees and students of UNMC are invited to attend the block party starting at 4 p.m. The parking lot to Barrett’s will be blocked off, where UNMC employees and students can enjoy complimentary food, discounted drinks, live music, volleyball and more.
