Message to UNMC students on digital learning tools

To: All students

As you know, UNMC is currently in strong preparation to deal with the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation as it evolves. In order to keep you safe as well as minimize the impact on your learning, we have asked all faculty to be prepared for the possibility to pivot to teach exclusively online in the very near future for a period of time. We are recommending that you test your ability to fully access and familiarize yourself with the following UNMC resources to ensure you are able to take advantage of all the opportunities for your continued education.

To assist with preparations, the Academic Technology team has prepared a website that offers specific user guides for the tools and will be updated with resources as they become available.

Resources/tools available to you:

Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) increases safety and security by ensuring UNMC students authenticate themselves multiple ways before being granted access to certain UNMC & Nebraska Medicine resources. Duo will be required to access certain resources.

Canvas is UNMC’s learning management system that delivers course content, provides an avenue for your assignment submissions, online discussions, and offers a gradebook.

Zoom is a video conferencing tool for you to meet “live” with other students or faculty or from your device. Your faculty member will distribute a unique Zoom link if your class will be meeting via a Zoom conference. Outside of class, collaborate with other students by logging into UNMC Zoom.

Echo360 Active Learning Platform (ALP) is a video content management system where your faculty may choose to record and distribute videos (videos may include a video of the faculty, faculty audio and presentation). The recorded videos can be accessed by clicking on the Echo360 (ALP) link in Canvas.

Echo360 ALP Universal Capture is a capture software where you may record and submit a link for a course assignment which includes recording a presentation with video, audio and content.

Examplify is downloadable software which enables students to securely take exams using their own personal devices.

Office 365 provides a single location to create, manage, secure and share files.

UNMC E-Learning Gallery provides students with supplemental modules to augment your learning.

McGoogan Library of Medicine is available virtually prior to the completion of the physical renovation, the anticipated completion month of July 2020. For more information, contact askus@unmc.edu
