COVID-19 vaccination documentation begins June 21

The following message was sent on Thursday to all members of the UNMC community.

In the UNMC Campus Guidance issued June 3, we announced that beginning June 21, members of the UNMC community would be required to document if they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or have declined the vaccine. The purpose of this communication is to provide details on how to complete your documentation.

  • We will use the Health Tracking System to record COVID-19 vaccine status, similar to the process we have used annually to obtain information about the influenza vaccine.
  • Individuals who previously completed their vaccine regimen at Nebraska Medicine have fulfilled their documentation requirement. They will receive an email confirmation that no additional action is needed.
  • Those who completed their vaccine regimen elsewhere and have already reported their information in the Health Tracking System, or have already reported declination of the vaccine, have fulfilled their documentation requirement. They will receive an email confirmation that no additional action is needed.
  • Individuals who do not have a complete COVID-19 vaccine record in the Heath Tracking System (fully vaccinated or declined) will receive an email with a link for them to complete their information. Instructions will be included for individuals who previously declined so that they may report if they subsequently started or completed the vaccine regimen. Email will be sent periodically through the summer and fall so that we can capture information from new students, faculty and staff.

We appreciate the reporting of your COVID-19 vaccination status. This information in the aggregate will provide a broad view of the immunization status of the UNMC community, which will help inform decisions concerning the health and safety of students, faculty, staff and patients.

Unvaccinated individuals are strongly encouraged to get a vaccination as soon as possible. More information about vaccine appointments is available from the Douglas County Health Department or the relevant local health department in your jurisdiction.

For their personal safety and the safety of the UNMC community, all individuals choosing to remain unvaccinated or unwilling to document their status will be expected to wear a mask at all times while on UNMC campuses or in Nebraska Medicine facilities.

Students who remain unvaccinated or unwilling to document their status may be denied the opportunity to participate in clinical rotations and educational endeavors at outside partner institutions requiring disclosure and/or completed immunization. UNMC cannot guarantee that clinical placements will be available or available in a timely manner for students who have declined the COVID vaccination.

Thank you for all that you do to keep our campus safe.
