Under the Microscope: Handling stress

In the face of mounting stress on UNMC faculty, staff and students, Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, sat down this week with Steve Wengel, MD, assistant vice chancellor for campus wellness, to discuss coping strategies to prevent burnout and make people aware that resources are available.

 

Drs. Wengel and Gold offered these tips to keep stress in check:

  1. Work from a schedule.
  2. Take daily breaks from emails and texts.
  3. Try a social media fast.
  4. Get plenty of sleep.
  5. Talk about how you’re feeling.
  6. Give back to yourself; do something fun, enjoyable.
  7. Get the UNMC app and take the Wellness assessment.
  8. Seek confidential help if you feel depressed, anxious or hopeless. 
  9. Be kind. Ask others how they’re doing.
  10. Stop anticipating the future; live in the moment. 

"We are a resilient group of students, faculty and staff, and we have overcome many, many challenges before, and we will overcome this, too," Dr. Wengel said.

    Where do you find the Wellness assessment on the app? I had someone asking.
