This one’s for the Iowa State alums on campus — and we know you’re out there.

Did you know George Washington Carver attended Iowa State — at the time Iowa State Agricultural College — and later became the school’s first black faculty member?

The George Washington Carver includes more than a hundred artifacts, along with videos, interactive displays, recreated scenes and more.
Carver is the focus of the a current Durham Museum Exhibit, which employees can view if they attend participant’s night event at the museum on Aug. 9.

What: UNMC and TNMC employees and their families will learn about the life and work of Carver — an extraordinary man, born into slavery, who used his gifts to become a groundbreaking scientist, educator and humanitarian.

When: 5 to 8 p.m.

Where: The Durham Museum, 801 S. 10th St.

Other stuff: Live jazz music and special children’s science demonstrations from CAPOW! also will be featured. A cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres will be available.
