What is your best memory from your time at UNMC?

I already have many great memories since my first day on the job at UNMC. One in particular stands out: the Harold M. and Beverly Maurer Center for Public Health building dedication ceremony. The excitement and genuine support from our campus colleagues and community partners was tangible. The air was electric with positive energy. I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude to be a UNMC COPH employee.

Our four brand values are leadership, commitment to excellence, working together and being a trusted resource. Pick one and tell us a time you witnessed it embodied at UNMC.

Our college accreditation process, in which I am participating, embodies all four brand values. I witnessed outstanding leadership from our dean and others who provided critical guidance and encouragement throughout the self-study process. Our faculty and staff clearly showed their commitment to excellence, rolling up their sleeves and working together to tackle an exhaustive and multi-faceted self-study of which we are quite proud. Our faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners graciously hosted accreditation site visitors in May and exhibited to them many ways where UNMC is a trusted resource and partner locally, regionally, nationally and globally.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I have been married almost 10 years and we are expecting our first child soon.
  • I moved to Omaha in July 2009 after living my first 30-something years in Virginia. We so love it here!
  • My parents named me after a Sunday newspaper comics character, Queen Aleta of the Misty Isles, from the strip “Prince Valiant.”
