Updates on 40th Street construction and the ‘Emile Bend’

The final phase of the Student Plaza should be completed by the end of this month as:

  • All paving and curbs from the original 40th Street have been removed and new top soil, concrete sidewalks, sod and sprinkler systems will be installed in the next two weeks;
  • Access around the construction site will be maintained during this work; and
  • Temporary paths will be installed from Parking Lot 15 on the north side of the Harold M. and Beverly Maurer Center for Public Health to the Sorrell Center.

All staff and students should take extra caution in the area of the construction site as construction vehicles will cross the site until the permanent sidewalks are in place.

Officials see public access to the ‘Emile Bend’ coming in early October as:

  • Work continues between 41st and 40th streets;
  • Preliminary grading has been established and new utilities are being installed; and
  • New concrete curbs and paving should start by the week of Sept. 19 with final landscaping and lighting to follow.
