Benefit U in focus — UNO classes to be offered at UNMC

The following UNO courses will be available at UNMC this summer and fall:

  • GERO 2000-802: Introduction to Gerontology — Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5 to 8:20 p.m. (May 14 – June 22, 2012) The course will be taught by Lisa Bottsford and provide an introduction to social gerontology and human development in later life. Emphasis is on important elements of aging, such as socialization, family interaction, retirement, physical and psychological aging, and perceptions of older persons in contemporary society. There are no prerequisites for this course and it meets general education social science and U.S. cultural diversity requirements.
  • HIST 1010-802: World Civilizations II — Mondays and Wednesdays, 5 to 8:20 p.m. (July 2 through Aug. 10) The course will be taught by Katherine Welchans. World Civilizations II is an examination of selected societies since the beginning of the modern era. There are no prerequisites for this course and it meets general education humanities and global cultural diversity requirements.
  • SPAN 1110-802: Elementary Spanish I — Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5 to 7:30 p.m. (Aug. 20-Dec. 14) The course will be taught by Arturo Miranda and offer students the opportunity to build skills in Spanish pronunciation, listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. There are no prerequisites for this course and it meets a general education global cultural diversity requirement.
  • SPCH 4140/8146-802: Communication & Human Relationships — Monday, 5 to 7:50 p.m. (Aug. 20-Dec. 14) The course will be taught by Dr. Marshall Prisbell and will apply theories of interpersonal processes and communication principles to the study of relationships. Discussion focuses on the communication in different types of relationships and relational stages. To register, you must have junior standing or higher and have taken SPCH 2010 or 2410, or have instructor permission.

All courses will be held in Bennett Hall, Room 2020.

To register for any of these classes, you must be enrolled as a student at UNO. To apply, go to UNO’s website and click on the “Prospective Student” tab.

Once you have completed the admissions process, you will be given an E-BRUNO account. This is where you will register for classes.
