UNMC LiveGreen — Pledge stats

Since it launched last spring, more than 1,700 employees and students have participated in the UNMC LiveGreen Pledge.

It is estimated that UNMC saved about $69,000 and kept 660 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as a result of the pledged conservation behaviors of employees and students. That’s equivalent to the emissions produced by 130 vehicles during the course of a year.

“The pledge really does make a difference, and we have seen a significant change in behavior among employees and students as a result of this endeavor,” said Melanie Stewart, director of the UNMC LiveGreen initiative.

Renewed push

As UNMC LiveGreen moves into its second year, employees are once again asked to take the pledge if they haven’t already. Employees who have taken the pledge are encouraged to ask others to participate, as well.

The online pledge is simple to complete, takes less than 60 seconds and asks employees and students to commit to one or more very simple, yet effective activities that will help improve UNMC’s environmental impact.

The top five campus units in terms of overall pledge participation are:

  • Chancellor’s Office — 83 percent
