How do they get all those steps?

If the name doesn’t make you double take, the step totals will.

Three weeks into the UNMC Walks to the Olympics challenge, London Britches, a team composed largely of employees from the School of Allied Health Professions, has amassed more than 5.7 million of the 8.6 million steps needed to complete the challenge.

Members of the London Britches walking team stop moving long enough to take a picture. Through Wednesday the team had amassed more than 5.7 million steps in the UNMC Walks to the Olympics challenge.

Below London Britches team member Amber Donnelly tells us some of the reasons her team has taken a commanding lead in the challenge.

………

“We have 20 people on the team — 19 from Allied Health and one from the College of Pharmacy. Two members of our team just ran the Papillion half-marathon on Sunday. We also have two team members training for upcoming triathlons.”

………

“One team member went to two national meetings recently and walked all over the convention centers and cities. Her weekly totals for those two weeks were more than the marathon runners.”

………

“We have eight every-day runners who are not training for anything in particular and they average about 110,000 steps each week.”

………

“I have started a walking club with other moms while our daughters are in figure skating classes. We typically walk for one hour, four times a week and get four miles in each time we walk.”

………

“Some of our team members have started to walk on their lunch breaks. They walk for an hour and they generally walk four miles on their breaks.”

………

“It also should be noted that we have several very competitive team members and they are always up for a challenge. Some were regular walkers, some were not. But, I have to say that most members have probably doubled their steps for the team!”

I have been wondering how they have gotten so many steps! Wonderful inspiration!

Way to go! Great example of how an active life style and a competitive spirit can create a winning team!

Well, the Ramblers may be behind, but we're number 1 in attitude. Also, I think we have a bigger fan base.
