UNMC Walks to the Olympics – Random challenge winner

Some of our UNMC Walks to the Olympics participants log steps at ice rinks and belly dance classes while another walks her crying grandchild around the house and racks up steps along the way.

But after close review, this week’s random challenge winner is Cindy Mitchell in International Health and Medical Education and member of the Passport Agents team.

How does Mitchell get her steps in? She tells us below.

Sitting is the thing I do best in life, so this is for all the other sitters out there. … For the fake trip to the London Olympics, I’ve created a fake track through our living room, dining room, sunroom and kitchen. When the commercials come on during my must-see television shows, I hit the track. I can easily do 450-550 steps per each series of commercials. This winds up being more than 2,000 steps during a one-hour television show!

For her win, Mitchell gets a $10 iTunes gift card.

It should be noted that Sherry Martin of the College of Public Health came in a close second.

Martin sings in a “rockin’ choir” and thanks to her church’s two services, she averages about 4,000 steps before noon each Sunday.
