Swim challenge winner, cycling challenge set for Owl Ride week

Congratulations to UNMC’s chief compliance officer Sheila Wrobel, J.D., who swam 11 miles last week to take home the Golden Goggles and a $10 iTunes gift card.

Eleven miles in the pool equates to 66,000 steps.

Bike challenge

In recognition of the annual Owl Ride, which takes place Saturday evening, our next conversion challenge is for campus cyclists. Rack up the most steps on your bike and win the Golden Tire and a $10 iTunes card.

Use this conversion chart and track how many steps you get on your bicycle for the next week.

The only steps that count for this challenge are those acquired on your bike. Send your “bike step” total to today@unmc.edu by 4 p.m. next Tuesday (July 17).

The Owl Ride — a prime opportunity for bike steps

The Owl Ride — the largest annual night bicycle ride between Chicago and Denver — benefits the Meyer Foundation for Disabilities, which supports social and recreational programs for people with developmental disabilities in the Omaha metro area.

The ride starts at 11 p.m. at Omaha’s riverfront and travels through downtown, Midtown, Dundee, Aksarben, Field Club and the Old Market, with “Owl perch” stops and support along the way.
