The UNMC Walks to the Olympics Challenge wraps up today with a closing ceremony in the Scott Student Plaza.
As we head into today’s closing ceremony at the Scott Student Plaza at 11:30 a.m., here are some fun numbers to consider in regards to the Olympic Challenge (Numbers are not final):
  • 500 plus — the number of participants;
  • 370 million — Roughly the total steps accumulated through last week;
  • 42 — the number of times we have collectively covered the 4,300 mile distance between Omaha and London; and
  • 730,000 — the average number of steps each participant has walked so far in the challenge.

Ceremony information

Gather your teammates to come out for today’s ceremony to celebrate the end of the challenge, get your medals and take group and team photos.

The ceremony gets started with a short procession from the campus art feature to the student plaza ice rink area for the medal presentation and group photos.

Everyone’s a winner

Some of the teams that acquired more than the 8.6 million steps needed to get to London have “donated” steps to teams that didn’t make it all the way to London.

Therefore, each UNMC Walks to the Olympics participant is eligible to receive a medal.
