UNMC anesthesiologists named to national roles
UNMC Department of Anesthesiology faculty Cale Kassel, MD, associate professor, has been named director of the Nebraska Society of Anesthesiologists Board of Directors, and pediatric anesthesiology fellow Lauren Costello, MD, who will become an associate professor in the department this fall, will serve as alternate director, both representing UNMC on a national stage as part of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
The NSA is Nebraska’s component society of the ASA, the nation’s largest professional organization for physician anesthesiologists. The NSA promotes the profession of anesthesiology, advocates for physician-led care and seeks to further the education of its members. Thirty-one UNMC employees have retired or announced their intention to retire, the human resources department reported in July.
Among the retirees are:

- Lisa Stillahn, UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation, retired March 6 (start date Jan. 15, 1987)
- Jennifer Cera, PhD, UNMC College of Nursing, announced plans to retire Sept. 1 (start date Aug. 15, 2011)
- Jonathan Vennerstrom, PhD, UNMC College of Pharmacy, retired July 1 (start date Aug. 1, 1987)
