Student Health Insurance Orientation
After you are enrolled in classes at UNMC, the student health insurance charges are calculated and will appear on your student account, if you meet the eligibility requirement for coverage.
Eligibility
To be eligible for student health insurance, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Domestic or international student who is an undergraduate or professional student enrolled in 12 or more credit hours
- Undergraduate nursing student enrolled in the traditional six-semester program
- Graduate nursing student enrolled in six or more credit hours
- Graduate student enrolled in nine or more credit hours
- Doctorate student enrolled in a PhD program
Confirm or Waive Coverage
The insurance confirmation or waiver timeline and effective date for coverage depend on your program.
- For MLS and P4 students, insurance information is sent in early April. The insurance coverage for the fall semester begins May 1. The enrollment/waiver period is May 1 to June 9, 2026, for student health insurance. If you enroll in classes after May 1, it will take 1-2 business days for charges to be calculated and appear on your student account following your enrollment.
- For M3 and M4 students, insurance information is sent in early May-June. The insurance coverage for the fall semester begins July 1. The enrollment/waiver period is (date) to (date), 2026, for student health insurance. If you enroll in classes after July 1, it will take 1-2 business days for charges to be calculated and appear on your student account following your enrollment.
- For students in all other programs, insurance information is sent in early June-July. The insurance coverage for the fall semester begins August 1. The enrollment/waiver period is (date) to (date), 2026, for student health insurance. If you enroll in classes after August 1, it will take 1-2 business days for charges to be calculated and appear on your student account following your enrollment.
How to Confirm or Waive Coverage
Log into MyRecords. If you are eligible for student health insurance, the following statement appears under UNMC Student Health Insurance on your MyRecords dashboard. This statement remains on your dashboard until the end of your waiver period.

- Click the red click here text to waive or confirm/guarantee insurance coverage.
- Complete this step as soon as possible after the student health charges appear on your account.
- If you are an international student, you are required to have medical evacuation and repatriation benefits that match the coverage provided to university students through Relation Insurance Services. Medical evacuation and repatriation is included in the UHCSR student health insurance.
Insurance Card
After you have confirmed/guaranteed your insurance through MyRecords, the activation process begins. It may take up to 5 days for your insurance card to be available.- UnitedHealthcare Student Resources medical insurance cards are not automatically mailed to you.
- You can download an app that will allow you to have your card electronically
- You also can log into your UnitedHealthcare Student Resources account and have a card mailed to you or download a copy.
Dental Coverage
Dental insurance is included in your medical enrollment. There are no separate premium fees or enrollment steps.
UnitedHealthcare Dental is your carrier. The UnitedHealthcare Dental contact information and website will be listed on your UHCSR account. It can take up to a week for the activation process to complete and for this information to be available.
After your coverage is active, you can log in to myuhc.com and register to access the self-service tools (refer to your UnitedHealthcare Dental ID card for the subscriber ID number to be used during registration). You can do the following from the self-service tools on the website:
- Print a replacement dental card
- Explore plan benefits and limits
- View dental claims
- Find a dentist
If you haven't received a dental ID card in the mail, you can call UHC Dental Customer Service at 1-877-816-3596 for help setting up your online account and to request a new card be mailed to you.
Where to Get Care
UNMC provides access to convenient on-campus clinics for each location. Learn more about Student Health Clinics & Services by Campus.
If your campus clinic is not open or does not have appointments available, we recommend that you seek care at the nearest Nebraska Medicine Immediate Care Clinic. Email studenthealth@unmc.edu within 48 hours of your visit for a referral that may assist with lowering your out-of-pocket costs.

If an Immediate Care Clinic is Not Open
Students with coverage from UnitedHealthcare Student Resources are encouraged to seek care at an Urgent Care facility that is in-network if it’s not a true You may also call the appointment line for guidance 402-559-7204.- You may also call the UHCSR customer service line for assistance at 1-866-416-2623 or 1-866-351-4262. Number for language assistance 1-866-260-2723. Number for Dental 1-877-816-3596. Please make sure you identify yourself as a UNMC student.
- If it is during regular business hours of 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, you can call the Nebraska UnitedHealthcare Student Resources advocate at 1-866-351-4262. This line may not be answered immediately, and responses may take up to 24 hours if you leave a message.
- Urgent Care visits have a lower copay; once the student pays the copay(most places do not require this upfront and you can be billed), UnitedHealthcare Student Resources will typically cover most of the other charges.
- If it’s a true emergency, go to the nearest emergency room (ER).
For students that have UnitedHealthcare Student Resources Insurance:- We encourage you to go to a Nebraska Medicine emergency room for true emergencies, which will assist with your out-of-pocket costs for the copay and deductible associated with an ER visit.
- If you are seen at a Nebraska Medicine emergency room, you will need to email studenthealth@unmc.edu within 48 hours of being seen for a referral to assist with your copay and deductible. That amount can total up to $800.00.
Care Outside of the Local Area
If you have applied for the insurance waiver and it was approved, please reach out to your private insurance for guidance.
For students with UHCSR coverage:
- If you need care outside of the area and need assistance locating a provider, please contact UnitedHealthcare Student Resources customer service line at 1-866-416-2623 for guidance or visit their website and look up in-network providers and facilities.
- Number for language assistance 1-866-260-2723
- Please let them know you are a UNMC student and that you are outside of the area and need assistance in finding an in-network provider.

Medical Bills
If you have applied for the insurance waiver and it was approved, please reach out to your private insurance for guidance.
For students with UHCSR coverage:
- To assist with keeping your out-of-pocket costs as low as possible, we recommend you utilize the Nebraska Medicine UNMC Student Health Clinic for your care.
- If you need to be seen outside of the Student Health Clinic, try to utilize Nebraska Medicine Hospitals and Clinics . You may also utilize in-network UnitedHealthcare Student Resources providers and facilities.
- If you are seen in a Nebraska Medicine Emergency room or Immediate Care Clinic and have UHCSR, email studenthealth@unmc.edu so referrals can be put in to assist with lowering your out-of-pocket costs.
- If you need guidance for reviewing a medical bill and have UHCSR, email studenthealth@unmc.edu with a copy of your bill attached and the date you were seen.
- To speak to the insurance company directly about the claim resulting in your bill, you will need to contact Nebraska UnitedHealthcare Student Resources Advocate at 1-866-351-4262 or email unebraskaadvocates@uhcsr.com
- Having insurance coverage does not guarantee that you will avoid out-of-pocket costs for your medical care .
