Research and Internships

Undergraduate Summer Research Programs

There are many opportunities for undergraduates to perform research during the summer at UNMC. The Summer Research Programs are generally 10 weeks in duration starting in the first or second week of June. Successful applicants will spend the summer working in a research laboratory in either a basic science or clinical department. Students are supported by stipends to cover living expenses. See individual programs for current stipend levels. The programs provide assistance in obtaining suitable housing.

Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP)

Offers students research opportunities throughout the basic science and clinical laboratories associated with the College of Medicine. Areas of studies range from basic research into the mechanisms of human diseases, to clinical investigations evaluating various aspects of treatments. Along with students interested in research, this is also a great program for this interested in MD/PhD combined degree program. Summer Undergraduate Alcohol Research Program (SUARP)

SUARP focuses on alcohol research. Students who participate in SUARP will participate in all SURP activities complemented by a seminar series hosted by the Alcohol Interest Group (AIG) and a journal club organized by alcohol research students.

Internships

Neuroscience & Neuroimmunology Research Paid Internship

The Department of Pharmacology & Experimental Neuroscience administered a one-year paid internship. The internship focuses on various aspects of neuroscience from molecular mechanisms of synaptic transmission to brain imaging of neurological diseases.
