Nursing’s Juli Bohnenkamp is Gold U Award recipient

Juli Bohnenkamp is being recognized for her unwavering commitment, integrity and passion for assisting students and faculty in the UNMC College of Nursing. She is the Gold U Award recipient for June.

Bohnenkamp is an online testing resource coordinator for the college.

She said she is humbled by the recognition.

“I don’t do what I do every day expecting awards and accolades,” Bohnenkamp said. “I love what I do, working with the faculty, staff and students in the College of Nursing. Testing is a stressful experience for faculty and students. My philosophy is to be as helpful as possible, taking the stress out of the situation and adding a bit of positivity to each and every interaction.”

Multiple nominators wrote glowing remarks about her, saying she was instrumental in implementing ExamMonitor, which the College of Nursing used throughout the pandemic to administer remote testing for each of its five campuses. “She continually streamlines testing processes, troubleshoots testing issues and provides updates on ExamMonitor, ExamSoft and other student testing/remediation programs,” one nominator wrote.

One faculty member said that Bohnenkamp’s mentoring and dedication to the spirit of learning new methods for exam integrity are unprecedented.

“Although undergraduate student and faculty anxiety levels were heightened during the remote testing transition, her steadfast attention to detail and communication proved noteworthy with positive outcomes,” the faculty member said. “After the initial remote testing session, she used responses from a short survey to offer recommendations which improved subsequent remote examination sessions. Faculty and students alike bestowed appreciation with Juli’s desire to make sure all voices were heard in this high-stakes process.”

During the past year, Bohnenkamp also implemented Zoom proctoring and provided faculty with multiple ways to achieve their desired outcomes in regard to testing and exam security. Nominators say she is goal-oriented, selfless, patient, collegial, helpful and continually looks for ways to give students a better learning and testing experience.

“It is only through reliable resources and support that I, as a faculty member, can truly make a difference in molding the lives of our future nursing workforce,” a faculty member wrote. “She offered one highly imperative and innovative resource in a very short time in our undergraduate nursing education endeavors.

“Through her expertise pertaining to electronic testing and proctoring processes/best practices, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Juli developed and fostered Zoom proctoring processes for remote examinations beginning in March 2020. The innovative approach used existing resources and was cost-effective.”
