Action required for mobile, remote access to apps

The date to enroll in Duo, a multi-factor authentication technology, and install Intelligent Hub, our mobile App Store, is fast approaching.

Starting today, IT is offering sessions where colleagues can visit “Tech Tents” (think of it as similar to Apple’s Genius Bar) to get help in setting this up. For self-service instructions to enroll, click here.

As we shared with you in June, Duo would be replacing the current Entrust grid cards and hard and soft tokens that are used to remotely access enterprise applications, when you are off campus or off the Nebraska Medicine and UNMC network.

Starting Monday, Sept. 30, Duo will be a required second validation step in able to access certain applications remotely (off-campus) from a PC or laptop. At that time, you must be enrolled in the Intelligent Hub to access email on your mobile device. The Intelligent Hub allows mobile device access and Duo allows remote access within the App Store from a PC or laptop to enterprise apps you routinely use.

Any off-campus attempt using your username and password to access UNMC and Nebraska Medicine data or applications will generate a push notification to your enrolled Duo mobile app to verify you are the person trying to access the information.

Duo affects off-campus access to the following apps:

  • Epic/One Chart
  • Zoom
  • Box
  • Kronos
  • Lawson/MyHR
  • Smart Square
  • Stratajazz
  • DocuSugn
  • Xapiapps
  • Office 365

After installing and enrolling in the Hub and from the Hub, installing and enrolling in Duo on your mobile device, you can access the above applications from a laptop or PC web browser while you’re off our network.

You will enter your username and password in the App Store (here (for Nebraska Medicine) or here (for UNMC), and when launching these applications above, you’ll be asked to verify using Duo. A push notification will be sent to your enrolled mobile device and once Approved with two taps, you’ll have immediate access.

Beginning Sept. 30, remote access on a laptop will require the usage of a smart phone to provide a “key” to confirm who you are. So, think of the secure portal as a lock, and the notification from Duo on a smart phone as your key to that lock.

Once you are enrolled in Duo, you can access all of the App Store applications from your home computer here (for Nebraska Medicine employees) or here (for UNMC employees/students).
