Darwin Brown submitted “Hope Tower” as a suggestion for a name for the campus art feature. His suggestion led to the tower being named “Hope.”
The name was based on the suggestion of “Hope Tower,” which was submitted by Darwin Brown, assistant professor in the physician assistant program in the School of Allied Health Professions.

Brown’s suggestion was the first received among 18 that included the word “Hope.” In all, employees generated 235 suggestions for possible names for the art feature, which was created by world-renowned artist James Carpenter.

The art feature was brought to campus thanks to a gift by Ruth and Bill Scott.

At night, “Hope” will be visible thanks to lights that have been installed at its base.

An official lighting ceremony was held Tuesday evening and Ruth Scott was the first to “shine the light” on Hope.
