Wellness Wednesday – Calculate your body mass index

Hey, take a second to use this online body mass index calculator from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Basically the BMI is a loose approximation of what percentage of our body is composed of fat.

Please note — this isn’t a perfect measurement and it might not account for those of you who lift a lot of weights. For example, at his bodybuilding prime, Arnold Schwarzenegger stood 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighed 257 pounds.

According to this measurement, he was obese. According to this picture, he was not.

That said, the BMI measurement should give most of us — who didn’t win multiple Mr. Universe titles by the way — some good information about where we stand in terms of body fat.

Plus it’s just kind of fun to plug in arbitrary numbers to see the results.

The BMI also doesn't account for age. No one is going to weight at 45 what they did at 25.
