Weekly e-Tip No. 22 – Bypass name selection and more

Did you know you can often bypass selecting names from the address book when you send messages by selecting the “Check Names” button or pressing Ctrl+K after you type part of a name in the address field?

Do you ever miss messages because they change from Unread (Bold) status in Outlook after being displayed in the reading pane?

Take the following steps to change your preferences so that messages are not marked as read when viewed in the reading pane:

  • Outlook 2007 — Tools > Options > Other > Reading Pane
  • Outlook 2010 — File > Options > Mail > Reading Pane
  • Outlook 2011 (Mac) — Preferences > Email > Reading and select the bottom option
  • Outlook Web — Options > Other options >

Learn these and more email management tips in Wednesday’s Outlook session from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the ITS training room, 8011 Wittson Hall.
