Lymph Nodes

A Resident's day-to-day on the Lymph Node Rotation

The resident on the lymph node service is responsible for the workup of all hematolymphoid tissues obtained at the Nebraska Medical Center, the Nebraska Lymphoma Study Group, and the robust consultation service.  This includes review of all materials, ordering special stains, and drafting reports, as well as obtaining ancillary records as necessary to inform the final report.  We regularly discuss cases with, and offer preliminary diagnoses to, the staff and trainee hematologists/oncologists, the clinical laboratory staff, and the flow cytometry service.  Additionally, we participate in hematopathology morning conferences, hematopathology journal clubs, clinicopathologic conferences (CPCs) with the hematology/oncology services, and attend leukemia, lymphoma, and molecular pathology tumor boards as available.  We also may be asked to participate in the gross preparation of service-related tissues.  We present at Lab Medicine meetings after completing each rotation.
