Next Generation Sequencing

The UNMC Genomics Core provides Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) services using Illumina sequencing technology.  The core facility operates an Illumina NovaSeq6000, an Illumina NextSeq550, and a MiSeqV2 sequence analyzer. 

Following are the applications supported by Next Generation Sequencing:

• RNA Sequencing is performed to measure genome-wide gene transcription and assays are designed to measure mRNA, total RNA, or miRNA species.

  DNA Sequencing of whole genomes as well as targeted regions of genomes is performed. 

  Exome sequencing is provided for sequencing of the coding region of human genomes to identify genetic variation.

  Metagenomics service is provided, with both 16s ribosomal profiling as well as shotgun whole genome metagenomic strategies are available.

  Single Cell Profiling using a 10x Genomics platform to perform single cell RNAseq and other single cell applications.

A description of the NGS related instrumentation available can be found here.  The NGS core operates Illumina NovaSeq6000, NextSeq550, and MiSeq Systems in addition to liquid handling robotics for NGS Library construction, instrumentation for qPCR, quantification and sizing, DNA shearing, and single cell genomics.
